Elmwood Park, NJ 12/16/19 – In NJIC Patriot Division action at Parkway Lanes, a classic showdown between the remaining unbeaten squads resulted in neither Park Ridge nor Butler escaping unscathed. Butler struck first, snapping Park Ridge’s win skein at fifteen games, 741-661 as anchor Aiden Marletta smoked the lanes with a 246 single; then, all-state junior Joe Mahoney took center stage, firing a stunning 279 to snap Butler’s winning streak at thirteen games, 765-671. Park Ridge took game three to come away with a 5-2 triumph, 2130-2040. Mahoney raised his division-leader average to 214.22 with his sterling 717 [203-279-235] while Marletta finished with a strong 652 [246-210-196]; a nail-biting encounter, to say the least. In other division match-ups, Leonia crushed winless Palisades Park, 1942-1472 behind Andy Hong’s 613 [223-184-206]. High game for the Tigers was David Cho’s 178. Harrison snatched two of three games from Midland Park in a tight match, 1528-1497. In another spirited clash, New Milford edged past Hawthorne Christian, 1686-1644 despite anchor Philip Duncan’s striking 652 [223-221-208].

Patriot Division High Individual Avgs: Joe Mahoney 214.22, Andy Hong 203.92, Philip Duncan 191.87 and Aiden Marletta 187.60.

In Colonial play, Glen Rock [32-3] held onto its slim division lead by pounding Rutherford [7-35], 1911-1364; Leo Taras led the Panthers’ offense with 199-196. In a high-scoring match with both quartets rolling their best threesomes to date, Pompton Lakes [31-11] squeezed past Eastern Christian [30-12], 1986-1943; the Cardinals were sparked by Mackenzie Ryan’s 590 [221-167-202] while the Eagles were paced by Daniel Buckles 215: 567. Saddle River Day [14-21] shut out Manchester [9-33], 1350-1155.

Colonial Division High Individual Avgs: Leo Taras 177.13, Evans Yang [EC] 173.28, Daniel Buckles 167.06 and Ryan MacDougall [GR] 165.29.

In Meadowlands’ face-offs, Lyndhurst [33-2] swept Wood-Ridge [10-18] behind Troy Villani’s 235: 603. Buoyed by Mike Cortellino 247 and Trent Petito 216, North Arlington [30-5] cruised past Becton, 7-0. Wallington [26-2] kept pace with a shutout of Weehawken [7-28] and Secaucus [5-16] captured two of three games from Hasbrouck Heights [11-24], 5-2, despite a fine outing from the Aviators’ Jake Rozma [531].
